Care instructions
Cashmere products can be treated in the same way as other woolen fabrics.
Wash by hand or select the wool cycle on your washing machine
Water temperature max. 30°C, use little wool detergent, spin or knead only briefly and gently.
The cashmere-silk pashmina is very easy to care for: If it has absorbed odors – for example, in a restaurant or bar – we recommend simply airing it out. If you happen to spill something on your pashmina, there's no need to worry: Pashmina scarves can be cleaned just as easily as cashmere sweaters.
In our tests, we've repeatedly hand-washed cashmere-silk blends with Perwoll and haven't noticed any color loss. Perwoll obviously shares this view. It's no coincidence that they advertised their wool detergent using our 70% cashmere pashminas!
However, cleaning is also possible using the wool cycle of your washing machine. Please ensure that the water temperature does not exceed 30°C and that the spin cycle is kept to a minimum. If the pashmina is still very wet after washing, gently knead it to squeeze the water out of the wool fibers.
Important : Lay your pashmina flat (!) on a clothes rack to dry. Hanging it could cause the fabric to warp.
Why is wool so delicate?
Cashmere fabrics are made from animal fibers, which consist primarily of protein. When these wool fibers come into contact with water, they swell. Prolonged exposure to water, especially hot water or steam, can cause components of the fibers to leach out. Mechanical processing causes the wool fibers to rub against each other because they have a scaly, rather than a smooth, surface. This leads to felting and shrinkage of the fabric. Unsuitable washing solutions or too much detergent have the same effect. This means that wool fabrics should not be rubbed, wrung, or pulled in water. The water should be no warmer than 30°C (86°F). As a precaution, the drying process should not be accelerated by laying the fabric out in the sun or on a radiator. Please note that cashmere fabrics are particularly delicate and have slightly lower colorfastness than other wool fabrics.
